Satyajit Ray
Winning one National Award in an achievement in itself and very few manage it. Winning 32 of those is unheard of, yet that is exactly what Satyajit Ray achieved. The one after him is Shabana Azmi with five. In addition to this I think he is the only India scriptwriter who claimed that his script was plagiarized, and by none other than Steven Spielberg. The story of ET was taken from a script for a film to be called The Alien, based on his short story "Bankubabur Bandhu" ("Banku Babu's Friend"), which he wrote in 1962 for Sandesh.
Apart from a director, Satyajit Ray was a writer and wrote stories. He was also an illustrator and he worked in advertising as well initially.
