Nangal in Punjab has Bhakra dam which at its time was the biggest dam. There is a factory of National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) and then there are a whole lot of entrepreneurs.
India is the country with maximum number of self employed people and that is quite evident in the town of Nangal where you have a choice of two places mentioned above to work, or you can work for yourself. I don't know if the percentage is reflective of the nation as a whole but I guess it can't be too different. But that is all set to change. Nangal is at the border of Punjab and Himanchal Pradesh and a lot of industries are being set up there which will attract a lot of people to that area, people that will be working for someone else, not themselves.
This image is a long exposure of Nangal township and the chimnies of National Fertilizer's plant taken from the Babhor Sahib Gurudwara.
