Lessons learned in product photography

On the weekend I made a lightbox for myself using a cardboard box to use while taking picture of bottles and did a trial run for it. However the results were not as encouraging as I thought. Some of the things to keep in mind the next time:

  1. If I am using a coloured background as in this case, it should be non-reflective.
  2. The seal on the bottle has spoiled a lot of shots, making the bottle look shoddy; it should be removed the next time
  3. A lot of my shots depend on uncontrolled light, so the lightbox is useful only for taking shots like this one, for everything else; the box is more of a liability than an asset.

Since I have a day job, I will have to wait till the next weekend to try something better.
