19th November 2008 :: The pirates of Somalia and the Ghost who walks

Years ago a man was washed ashore in Africa. His ship was attacked by pirates and he was the only survivor. On that day he swore on a skull that he will spend his life fighting pirates and after him, his son will walk the same path and after him his son and this will continue till there are no pirates left. It worked quite well till about the 21st generation but then people heard about a legend-a man named Walker who is 400 years old, who is sharpest of sharp shooter, who doesn't die, who leaves a mark of skull on his victims. Phantom—The ghost who walks was born and was being wooed by the Franchise deals, the comics came followed by the movie and while he was busy being a celebrity, the pirates were gathering quietly in Somalia.

Almost everyday you hear about a ship being high jacked by the pirates of Somalia with the latest being the Saudi-owned Sirius Star supertanker carrying about 2 million barrels oil and a 25-man crew which is the largest ship to be seized so far and currently Pirates hold 17 vessels and 339 crew members hostage. It all seems like time travel. One such attempt was foiled by the Indian Navy a few days ago. Pirates is somehting we have heard about oonly in stories, not in real life, till now. What is next, train robberies?

There is an interesting post by Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert on the same topic.
