2nd April 2008 :: In this Olympics lets play parliament too

Baichung Bhutia refused the carry the Olympic torch because he felt the Tibet issue has not been handled properly by the China government. Some people have the view that he should not combine sports and politics, considering we live in a nation where world cup winning players sit in the second row and the politicians sit in the front row, it sounds a little odd. That aside I think those people are right, even the IOC is doing the same thing. The have clearly told China that there needs to be unrestricted access to Internet throughout the period of games so free reporting of the same could be facilitated. How noble, the human race will forever be in debt for this generosity. I am saying this because we are living in a very generous country. When China invaded Tibet, the people from Tibet came to out first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru for help. Just like we lovingly watch our kids play house, he also encouraged the Buddhist monks to play parliament. He allowed them to form a parallel government they could run from Dharamsala but refused to take any steps to drive China put of Tibet. Even after so many years we see our neighbors from north play “parliament” with the same love and affection that can be felt only by proud parents. In 2003, I visited their parliament and even met one of the MP.

I am thinking I should also form a parallel government of India in my home. I could make policies, make laws and ask our prime minister from financial help. I am sure he won't be any less generous than Pundit Nehru. Jai Hind.
